You can just go directly to http://www.realtor.com for your Internet research. If you want to deal directly with the Seller, then you should look at websites such as http://www.fsbo.com
Plenty of Realtor websites (myself included) have portals to the local multiple listing services. However, you are typically confined to that particular region.
